Many providers bundle in extras like free evening and weekend calls, anytime calls and even international calls with some providers. Depending on the service you choose many broadband providers will still require a phone line to be installed.

Do I need a phone line to use broadband?

You don’t always need a phone line to use broadband. With standard ADSL and Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) broadband packages, you will still require a landline to get a broadband service. Due to broadband providers still requiring a connection to your home. However, cable providers such as Virgin Media or if you live in a Fibre to the Home (FTTH) area then you can use broadband without the need of a phone line.

The good news is that many broadband providers now include line rental with their broadband packages. Therefore you only need to pay for any calls that you make.

Broadband With Call Plans Bundled

For those that make regular calls on their landline, it can often be cheaper to add on a call package. Call packages allow you to make calls at certain times of the day or to certain countries without paying a per-minute fee.

It is important to remember that call packages are only worth the additional cost if you are using your landline regularly every month. Otherwise, it can often be cheaper to just pay for the calls that you make.

Who Offers the Best Broadband and Call Plans?

Everyone will have different requirements. You’ll need to look at your phone usage. Do you regularly make calls during the day? Or is it more often in the evenings? The Table above is based on current call plans and call charges. Most providers will consider evening calls from 7 pm – 7 am. There may be additional connection charges – which we have not included in this table.
